Her company has worked hard on compliance issues and kept Hamilton Ladd out of the Department of Banking’s sights, she said. While some companies might grumble at the host of new rules they must follow, the sensible ones acknowledge that this is just the new reality of the industry.
Smith added that the new environment wasn’t a bad thing. The mortgage industry was in need of tighter regulation than was in place during the free-for-all days of the mortgage boom, when the bar to become a licensee was set very low.
